An independent reference for wine

Every country, read the same way.

getwine is not a shop. For every bottle it answers three questions: who is behind the label, what the medal is really worth, and what shops actually charge for it. Each country has its own site, on its own domain, built from its own registers and its own shelves. One method; no verdict is carried from one country to another.

Country editions

One edition per country.

Each edition is published on the country's own domain, built from its registers, its shelf prices and its languages. A medal is weighed the same way everywhere; a producer, a price or a verdict belongs to the country it was collected in.

Opening soon

These editions have their domain, and their catalogues are being prepared. Until they open, their domains lead here.

How every edition works

No scores of our own
We collect facts and derive a category, and we say which facts. Critics' scores appear under their names, on their own scales.
Sources named
Register, competition, year, shelf price: we say where each fact comes from and when it was collected.
Verdicts are not for sale
A category, the weight of an award or a place in a collection cannot be bought, in any country.
A right of reply
Producers can dispute any fact or category. A document changes the record, and every change to a category is logged with its date. The right of reply is free.

The app

Point the camera at the bottle.

The getwine app works in your phone's browser and installs to the home screen: photograph a label in the shop and read the record behind it, from the same catalogue the editions publish. For now it reads the Georgian catalogue.

  1. 1

    Scan the label

Photograph a bottle on the shelf. No account, no loyalty card, nothing to sign up for — one picture is enough.

  2. 2

    Match it to the record

The label is matched against the country's catalogue: the same rows the editions are built from, in the same order.

  3. 3

    Read what we hold

Who is behind the label, what the appellation allows, what the medal is really worth and what the same bottle costs in other shops.

The app adds no score of its own and no sponsored placement. If the record is thin, it says the record is thin, exactly as the editions do.
